ok so i am trying to fix a computer for a family member somehow they corrupted their os(i think) and the computer wouldn't boot properly(it only had like 4 processes running and only 2 or 3 services started). i wiped the hard drive to reinstall the os unfortunately every time i put the boot disk in the computer starts loads windows files says starting windows goes to a blank screen with the blinking _ line then restarts and dose it again. i then tried loading windows from a usb drive but it does the exact same thing. i also reset the bios to defaults.i also tried using the built in windows recovery and built in reset to purchase state. nothing helped they may not have been even working as i could not notice a differance at all. any ideas?
the computer is a laptop GATEWAY NV79 INTEL CORE I3 330M 64 BIT
THANKS IN ADVANCE

Try the following...
1. Power off the laptop. 2. Power on the laptop. 3. As soon as you see the rotating loading circle, press and hold the Power Button until the computer shuts off. 4. Repeat this process a few times until you see the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen. 5. Now you want to let the laptop boot to the "Automatic Repair" screen. 6. Click "Advanced Options" and then select "Troubleshoot". 7. Here you want to select "Refresh your PC", if you do not wish to erase data, or "Reset your PC" to erase all data and restore your system. 8. From here just follow the screen instructions until the recovery is completed.
NOTE: You will need to get into the "Advanced Options" in order to get the "Refresh Option". This choice will keep your data, but any programs installed will be lost.
Do not do a "Reset" as that will wipe all data you have on the laptop.
If it still won't load, trying this, then I would wonder if the motherboard is going. You can test the hard drive by pulling it and connecting it to another computer, externally, with an adapter and see if the drive reads fine. If it does, then I would definitely be looking at the motherboard.
